Beyond Physical Therapy

I had double mastectomy surgery with reconstruction for breast cancer in July 2016 with continued implant procedures through the Fall of 2016.
Two months after the initial surgery although I had been faithfully doing the prescribed exercises, I had ongoing issues with pain, immobility and numbness that I believed were permanent. With skepticism and resignation I began treatment with Karen. In 3 sessions I saw dramatic improvement in all areas and much to my relief even the stubborn numbness was resolved.
The “no pain-no gain” mantra I have often heard in my work amongst other therapists was never an adopted part of Karen’s treatment plan. Although the work was on sensitive tissue, to my surprise and delight the therapy was soothing and I did not experience any worsening of symptoms during or after the sessions.
I have been singing Karen’s praises to others including my surgeon who at a follow up appointment was so impressed with my recovery that she asked for the name of my therapist.
Don’t settle for run of the mill. If you have heard any hype about “massage” therapy in Bristol, check twice, it may be a buzz about Karen DeVille and her unique paradigm and treatment approach. She has opened my eyes to what it truly means to be a skilled physical therapist and I am so happy to share my experience and promote the work she does.

My partner has stage 4 cancer and was unable to walk sufficiently despite traditional physical therapy. After one Reiki therapy session with Karen, his leg strength, and stamina increased immensely. Since then, he has continued to benefit from numerous sessions with her. And his physical therapist has noted the Reiki as a turning point in my partner’s improved ability to walk again. We will definitely continue to use Karen’s expertise for as long as she is willing and able  

After a devastating accident where I blew out my knee, while simultaneously dealing with old injuries and Lyme disease, everything changed when I started working with Karen. My knee injury was severe, requiring first manipulation under anesthesia and subsequently an ACL repair.  I have had incredible success with my knee rehab, even astounding my surgeon with my progress- once I started working with Karen; and I continue to benefit from her treatment with other highly complex issues. Her version of treatment is very unique and yields fast results. If you’re on the fence, don’t question it. Get treated, your body and soul will thank you.  

When my body has been out of alignment, my joints have been inflamed or uncomfortable, I have had headaches, and/ or my physical and emotional energy has been out of whack, perpetuating discomfort in my body, mind, and/ or emotions, Karen’s skillful assessment, discernment in determining interventions, and holistic approach to physical therapy has restored my physical well-being and provided emotional relief, supporting my mental health and bodily wellness in a number of treatment episodes. I recommend Karen DeVille to those seeking a holistic approach to physical healing and overall wellness.
Karen is perceptive and intuitively effective.  She is aware of her own mind-body connection and integrates physical, mental, and emotional information in her holistic manual therapy.  Her unique way of working removes barriers to wellness and supports the body’s innate ability to heal. I would love to see more of her style of treatment available.  I have referred friends and clients to Karen and have had the good fortune to collaborate with her to benefit our mutual patients.

What I really appreciate is her ability to treat the whole person, not just a body part. Her care and compassion is evident right from the first appointment. She is teaching me what I need to do and what I need to watch for so I don’t slide back.

Karen was very dedicated to helping my father become mobile again. Post polio victims often have muscle degradation and weakness as they mature in life. This was no regular recovery from a broken leg. She reassured my father when he doubted his abilities to recover. My father trusted her and felt he was in good hands. She worked with my father for many months. Karen followed up with my father on several occasions after the conclusion of therapy to make sure he was doing well. My brother and I are grateful that Karen was assigned to helping my father.

My family lived through a nightmare as a neurosurgeon told us that our youngest son needed surgery now, that something was pushing on his brain. I have never been more scared in my life.
We ended up being the lucky of the unlucky as it turned out to be an infection gone mad !  Karen played a big part of making my son whole again.  The treatments were excellent. Karen is very knowledgeable and was right on when she described the benefits of her treatments and as parents what we should expect.
I do not hesitate when recommending Karen to those in need.

What a great experience I had with Karen. She was so in tune. Before I started seeing her, I was in pain, and my activities were very limited. I had been taking medication and was on the verge of having to have invasive procedure. Within a few months of being seen by Karen, I was able to start playing golf, resume chores around the house, and complete some carpentry projects as well. The doctors were quite surprised and impressed. I feel much younger now than I have in a long time. Thank you Karen!
